Important Ingredients

Here are the simple ingredients for this creamy whipped ricotta dip!

Ingredients for whipped feta and ricotta dip in glass bowls.
  • Ricotta cheese: The base of the dip—light, fluffy, and subtly sweet. Fresh ricotta is a really luxuriously textured base for a party dip.
  • Feta cheese: Adds that irresistible tang and saltiness! I like to get it in the blocks and crumble it myself.
  • Lemon zest & lemon juice: Brightens everything up and adding a squeeze of the lemon juice balances out the creamy cheeses.
  • Seasonings: Just enough to enhance the flavors of our main ingredients: salt, pepper, garlic powder, and dehydrated onion pieces add depth.
  • Hot honey: The secret ingredient to this flawlessly balanced ricotta dip recipe. It's a sweet heat that makes this dip completely irresistible.
  • Olive oil: This helps whip the cheeses into a silky-smooth texture without needing to add milk or water.
  • Chili flakes: Just a pinch for a little warmth!
  • Fresh herb: For that perfect finishing touch using a pop of fresh scallions, parsley, or fresh thyme really take this simple recipe over the top.
  • Dippers! Use your favorite dippers like pita bread, veggie crudités, or crackers

Swaps and Substitutions

It is easy to customize and tweak this ricotta cheese dip to fit what you have on hand! Here are some easy swaps for this delicious appetizer:

  • No feta? Use goat cheese for a similar tangy creaminess.
  • Out of hot honey? Mix regular honey with a pinch of red pepper flakes for the same sweet heat.
  • Swap feta for cream cheese, or even cottage cheese for a softer, less salty taste.
  • A teaspoon of finely minced fresh onion or Everything Bagel Seasoning works just like dehydrated onion.
  • Want it extra creamy? A splash of heavy cream or Greek yogurt will loosen up the dip even more.
  • Add other herbs to the top of the dip like fresh rosemary, thyme, or even a pinch of flaky sea salt!
  • Add a little zing to it by blending in some sun-dried tomatoes.

Tips for the Best Ricotta Cheese Dip

After making this delicious dip dozens of times, here are my best tips and tricks for making it perfect every time!

  • Use high-quality cheese – Since this dip is all about the cheese, go for whole milk ricotta and a good-quality feta (preferably block-style for the best texture).
  • Blend until ultra-smooth – A food processor or high-speed blender will give you the creamiest, dreamiest consistency. If it’s too thick, add a drizzle of olive oil to loosen it up.
  • Let it chill (or not!) – For a firmer, spreadable texture, refrigerate for 30 minutes before serving. If you prefer it light and airy, serve it right away.
  • Make it ahead – This dip keeps beautifully in the fridge for up to 3 days. Just give it a good stir before serving.
  • Garnish like a pro – A drizzle of hot honey, a sprinkle of fresh herbs, and a few extra chili flakes make all the difference in presentation and flavor.

With these little tricks, your ricotta cheese dip will be next-level delicious every time!

What to Serve with Ricotta Cheese Appetizer

This whipped feta & ricotta cheese dip is ultra-versatile and pairs perfectly with a variety of dippers! Here are some of my favorite ways to enjoy it:

Breads & Crackers:

  • Toasted warm bread (aka the ultimate crostini moment)
  • Pita chips for a crispy, salty crunch
  • Grilled sourdough to soak up all that creamy goodness
  • Seeded crackers for extra texture

Fresh & Roasted Veggies:

  • Cucumber slices – crisp and refreshing
  • Cherry tomatoes – sweet and juicy, a match made in heaven
  • Bell pepper strips – the perfect vessel for scooping
  • Grilled zucchini or eggplant – warm, charred, and delicious

Protein Add-Ons:

  • Crispy prosciutto or salami chips for a salty-savory twist
  • Grilled shrimp for a Mediterranean-inspired bite
  • Poached or fried eggs – spoon the dip over toast with an egg for brunch perfection

Extra Drizzles & Toppings:

  • A little more hot honey for that sweet heat
  • Crushed toasted nuts like pistachios or walnuts for crunch
  • A squeeze of fresh lemon juice to brighten it all up

This perfect dip is the kind of recipe that goes with everything, so don’t be afraid to get creative and make it your own!
