Ingredients For Easy Rice Krispie Treats
- Melted butter - Butter helps make the melted marshmallow mixture easier to work with and keeps the cereal treats soft and chewy.
- Mini marshmallows - Melted marshmallows are the delicious glue that holds these treats together.
- Vanilla extract - Add a splash of vanilla extract to elevate the sugary-sweet flavor of marshmallows.
- Freeze-dried strawberries - This secret ingredient adds concentrated strawberry flavor and a light pink color to these delicious treats!
- Red food coloring - Amp up the pale pink color from the strawberries with a couple of drops of red food coloring.
- Rice krispie cereal - Puffed rice cereal is the perfect crispy vehicle for ooey gooey marshmallows and yummy strawberry dust.

How to Store Pink Rice Krispie Treats
Rice krispie treats do not need to be refrigerated, but they can dry out and become hard to chew if they aren't covered. If you're serving them right away, cut them into squares and pile them in a stack on a plate. For more extended storage, like prepping before an event date, store them in an airtight container or even package them individually in plastic wrap. This will keep them soft, fresh, and chewy.
Rice Krispie Treat Variations
Swap out freeze-dried raspberries - I love the mild strawberry flavor in these pink rice krispie treats, but feel free to use your favorite freeze-dried fruit! Raspberries will keep the pink theme going, but go wild!
Change the color - If you'd prefer a different color of rice krispie treats, swap out the red food coloring for blue, green, or purple.
Use gel food coloring - Although regular food coloring works, gel food coloring has a more concentrated color and comes in a variety of specialty shades beyond the primary colors.

How To Color Rice Krispie Treats
There are a few different ways to color rice krispie treats! I like using just the freeze-dried strawberries, but they only add a blush of pink color.
Adding a few drops of liquid food coloring enhances the pink color, which is ideal for serving at events or parties. I use red coloring for this pink rice crispy treats recipe, but you can also use pink food coloring.
How to Dress Up Rice Krispie Treats
How to Make Valentines Day Heart Rice Krispie Treats - Turn these pink rice krispies treats into heart shapes using a cookie cutter and some cooking spray. Spray the cookie cutter with cooking oil to prevent it from sticking to the rice krispie treats. Then, press firmly to cut out your heart rice krispie treats. You can remix the extra pieces and cut another layer if the treats are still warm.
Dipped rice krispie treats - Melt pink candy melts in a microwave-safe bowl following the directions on the container, and then dip your rice krispie treats into the pink chocolate. Allow them to set either on wax paper or a wire rack (add something below to catch the drips).
Decorate your pink rice krispie treats - Go wild and add fun sprinkles of all different shapes, colors, and sizes! The sprinkles can be mixed into the rice krispies or tossed on top while they are still warm. You can even add candy hearts for a Valentine's Day party.
FAQS
Can you add food coloring to rice krispy treats?
Yes! Food coloring is a great way to add color to rice krispie treats. However, food coloring can be bitter. It's important to add only 2-3 drops to your molted marshmallow mixture and stir it in well. I use pink coloring for this recipe, but you can use any color you'd like!
Can you use colored marshmallows for rice krispie treats?
Technically, you can use any marshmallows for rice krispie treats, including large marshmallows or colored ones. However, the colored ones will add a slight color to the mixture. If you're using a variety of colors, these may melt into a light brown color. I recommend using one color of marshmallows or white marshmallows for these pink rice krispie treats.
Can you microwave rice krispie treats?
You can make rice krispie treats in the microwave, although I find the stovetop method easier and foolproof. You'll need to slowly melt the butter and marshmallows in a microwave-safe bowl for 30-second intervals, stirring each time. Once the mixture is gooey, add the additional ingredients and mix everything together in a large mixing bowl.
