🥂Important Ingredients
There's only a few things you need for this cocktail, but here's a run down of the important ones!
- Passion Fruit Juice: This one's the star of the show. But it's not an easy find! If I'm in a pickle, I'll settle for fresh passion fruit puree, but the juice is definitely preferable. I've also been known to blend up these frozen passion fruit cubes I get at Whole Foods!
Your next best option is pineapple juice. I've tried it, and it turned out just as good! - Vodka or Gin: Choose your poison! I prefer using vodka for this recipe, as it lets the passion fruit flavor shine through. But if you're feeling a little adventurous, try it with gin for a twist on the classic martini.
- Agave Syrup: You can use honey simple syrup, too. If I can't find agave syrup, I go with simple sugar syrup. You can make your own simple syrup by simmering equal parts water and sugar in a small saucepan until the sugar is fully dissolved. Do it over medium heat.
- Prosecco: Love love love this! The scent, the beautiful foam, the fresh vibe! Just make sure you end this right before serving the martini so it doesn't get flat.
🌸 Garnishes for a Martini
Half the fun of making a cocktail is the garnish, right?! Have a little fun with your martini garnish and try these out:
- Edible Flowers: This one's optional, but, hey, who doesn't want their martini to look pretty? Edible flowers are a perfect touch, especially if you're serving this on date night.
- Fresh Fruit: In this instance, I took a portion of the fresh passion fruit and placed it right on top. But feel free to garnish with a lime or lemon wedge, it helps people know what flavors to expect in their drink!
- Fruit Peel: The same idea as using a wedge of fresh fruit, try something lighter by adding a little twist of citrus peel!
You'll find more details on the ingredients in the recipe card at the end. Save it so you never miss an ingredient or measurement!
🥂Step by Step Instructions
Step 1: Add all ingredients plus ice (except Prosecco) to a cocktail shaker.
Step 2: Shake the passion fruit martini for 30-60 seconds until the outside of the shaker looks chilled and icy!
Step 3: Strain the martini into a chilled coupe glass.
Step 4: Top with Prosecco.
Step 5: Garnish your martini with a piece of fresh passion fruit and edible flowers.
💡Top Tips and Tricks
- Find the wrinkly passion fruits! They may not looks stunning, but we need ripe passion fruit for this recipe. The unripe ones are too sour. So, look for ones that are dark purple and have wrinkly skin!
- Chill all your martini glasses beforehand. Martinis are best enjoyed ice-cold.
- Strain out the passion fruit seeds. Trust me, you'll get all the delicious flavor of the ripe passion fruit without the crunch in your martini.
✨Variations and Substitutions
Use Passion Fruit Liqueur: If you can't find passion fruit juice, try using passion fruit liqueur instead. It will give your martini a stronger and sweeter flavor.
Want to make a passion fruit martini frothy? Add egg whites! Adding just the egg white before shaking up this martini will give it a foamy, creamy topping. Perfect for sipping.
Use Pineapple Juice: If you truly can't find passion fruit juice, try out pineapple juice instead!
Add Some Spice: For a little kick, add a few slices of fresh ginger or a dash of cayenne pepper to your shaker before mixing. Habanero-infused vodka also works wonders!
Get a Citrusy Vibe: Add a bit of triple sec or Cointreau for a hint of orange flavor.
💡Recipe FAQ
Of course! If you're preparing for a big party, you can save yourself some last-minute prep time by making the martini ahead of time.
Just mix everything except for the Prosecco in a large pitcher and store it in the fridge until you're ready to serve. Add the Prosecco right before serving and enjoy!
In the 2000s there was a very popular passion fruit martini called a Pornstar Martini. It used vanilla vodka and lemon! So delicious and refreshing!
Absolutely! Omit the vodka/gin and instead of topping with Prosecco, use ginger ale or club soda!
