Why You'll Love It

So what is Limoncello? Its an Italian cocktail that originated on the Amalfi coast. The simple ingredients & lemony flavor make it hard to resist. It's a combination of alcohol, lemon peels, and sugar. Combine these and let it sit to infuse the alcohol with that delicious lemon flavor.

Can you say refreshing?! Its vibrant citrus flavors make it perfect for any occasion. Here's why you'll love this easy limoncello cocktail:

  • Simple to make. The perfect spritz ratio is a super easy 3-2-1 ratio of liqueur, Prosecco, and club soda. Which makes it an easy cocktail recipe to remember.
  • Refreshing! It'll transport you right to a sunny day in Italy and is the perfect summer cocktail.
  • Perfect for parties. Hosting a party? Set up a Limoncello Spritzer bar and let people make their own or make a pitcher of limoncello spritz!

Important Ingredients

To craft the perfect Limoncello Spritzes, you’ll need:

Limoncello spritz ingredients.
  • 3 oz Limoncello: Choose a quality limoncello for the best flavor. Homemade limoncello or artisanal brands (I like Caravella!) from the liquor stores often provide a more authentic taste. If you want to try making your own limoncello, this would be the perfect use for it!
  • 3 oz Prosecco: A dry, bubbly prosecco balances the sweetness of the limoncello.
  • 1 oz Soda Water: Adds a refreshing fizzy element.
  • Ice Cubes: Essential for a chilled, refreshing drink.
  • Lemon Slices and Fresh Mint Sprig (for garnish): These fresh herbs add a lovely visual appeal and a burst of freshness. You could also garnish with a fresh orange slice!

Limoncello spritz topped with club soda and garnished with basil.
  1. Step 3: Add a splash of soda water to give your spritz that signature fizz. Stir gently to combine. (You could also use tonic water!)Garnish with a slice of lemon and fresh basil for fresh mint

Top Tip

Adjust the sweetness level to your liking by adjusting the ratio of ingredients- it's super easy to customize!

Tips for the Perfect Spritz....

Making this citrusy cocktail is easy, but here are some tips to make it even better:

  • Chill Your Ingredients: For the best experience, ensure your limoncello, prosecco, and soda water are well-chilled before making the spritz.
  • Use fun glasses: Wine glasses make the best spritz glasses.
  • Use Fresh Ice: Fresh, clear ice cubes will keep your drink cold longer and won’t affect the taste.
  • Experiment with Garnishes: While lemon and mint are classics, you can also try adding a few berries, citrus slices, fresh basil, thyme sprigs, or a twist of orange peels for a unique touch.

Pairing Your Limoncello Spritz

The Limoncello Spritz is incredibly versatile and pairs wonderfully with a selection of light appetizers. Here are a few pairing ideas:

  • Bruschetta with Mozzarella
  • Marinated Mozzarella Balls
  • Antipasto Platters: Think olives, cured meats, and sharp cheeses.
  • Light Salads: A fresh arugula salad with a citrus vinaigrette complements the spritz beautifully.
  • Seafood Dishes: Try it with shrimp cocktail or smoked salmon for a coastal Italian vibe.

💡Recipe FAQ

Can I use carbonated water instead of club soda?

Yes, tonic water or carbonated water work fine here. It may adjust the flavor a bit, but use what you have on hand!

What brand of Limoncello is best?

I really enjoy anything artisanal, specifically Caravella.

How far in advance can I make this drink?

Since we are using carbonated beverages, this is best served immediately so they don't go flat.

Instructions

  • Fill the Glass: Start by filling a large wine glass or a highball glass with ice cubes. The more ice, the better, as it keeps your drink cold without diluting it too quickly.
  • Add Limoncello: Pour the limoncello over the ice. The tangy sweetness is the star of this cocktail, so make sure to use a good quality one.
  • Pour in Prosecco: Next, add the prosecco. Tilt the glass slightly and pour slowly to preserve the bubbles.
  • Top with Soda Water: Add a splash of soda water to give your spritz that signature fizz. Stir gently to combine. You could also use tonic water!
  • Garnish and Serve: Garnish with a slice of lemon and a sprig of fresh mint. These not only look beautiful but also add an extra layer of aroma and flavor.

Notes

Chill Your Ingredients: For the best experience, ensure your limoncello, prosecco, and soda water are well-chilled before making the spritz.
Use fun glasses: Wine glasses make the best spritz glasses.
Use Fresh Ice: Fresh, clear ice cubes will keep your drink cold longer and won’t affect the taste.
Experiment with Garnishes: While lemon and mint are classics, you can also try adding a few berries, citrus slices, fresh basil, thyme sprigs, or a twist of orange peels for a unique touch.
