When I'm wanting a crispy snack that comes together in NO time at all, these crispy Air Fryer Artichoke Hearts really hit the spot. Served alongside a creamy homemade garlic aioli, you just can't go wrong.

They also make the perfect bite for any dinner party; like my Harvest Dinner Party!

What Do Air Fryer Artichokes Taste Like?

These little crispy bites are slightly tangy from the artichoke and aioli. The savory parmesan and crunchy panko breadcrumbs round out this appetizer with just a sprinkling of Italian seasoning, they are so delicious!

If you like marinated artichokes or even a good old spinach artichoke dip, then you'll love these air fry artichoke hearts.

Why You'll Love This Air Fried Artichoke Recipe

I take my appetizers very seriously and these are no exception. They need to be quick, easy, and use relatively little ingredients so that I can pull them out of my back pocket at a moments notice. You know for when HANGER strikes or announced guests...

Artichoke hearts in the air fryer check all of those boxes...

Quick. They are done from start to finish in less than 10 minutes!

Affordable. Using canned artichoke hearts is an economical way to serve up lots of great appetizers for a little price tag.

Easy. Did I mention you probably have the other ingredients in your pantry already? It couldn't be more simple to whip up this 5 ingredient appetizer.

You may have even seen the air fryer artichoke hearts on Tiktok - and now it's your turn to make them at home!

What Type of Artichoke Hearts To Use?

There are all kinds of artichoke hearts out there to choose from, here are the ones I'd recommend using to get a crispy artichoke:

  • Canned artichoke hearts in water. These have a little bit of a tang to them but aren't marinated, so you can really taste the artichoke, parmesan, and Italian seasoning in the recipe!
  • Canned artichoke hearts in brine. Just like water, these aren't marinated so they won't be so oily. I'd use this one as a close second choice keeping in
  • mind they may be a bit more salty.
  • Marinated artichoke hearts in a jar. These are marinated in an oily mixture so when you remove them from the jar, they'll be covered in oil and spices. Totally fine! But it will affect the flavor of the recipe a bit.
  • Frozen artichoke hearts. Frozen artichoke hearts in the air fryer...this would be my last choice for the air fryer artichoke recipe because they would need to defrost first and may be a little too mushy once defrosted.

Ingredients

Here is the list of what you'll need to make these crispy artichoke hearts with a delicious homemade garlic aioli.

  • Can of artichoke hearts in water
  • parmesan cheese, grated
  • panko breadcrumbs
  • italian seasoning
  • mayo
  • garlic cloves
  • dijon mustard
  • lemon juice
  • salt and pepper

Like I said you probably have the majority of these simple ingredients right in your pantry!

dredged air fried artichoke hearts in an airfryer basket
cooked air fried artichoke hearts in an airfryer basket

The recipe for the artichoke dipping sauce is one of my favorite sauces in the world. Mostly because it's easy to make but mainly because its so delicious drizzled over this recipe or my roasted artichokes halves!

Substitutions:

Swap in Italian breadcrumbs for the panko.

Try out other finely grated or shredded cheeses! Finely pulsed pecorino or asiago cheese instead.

As stated above, definitely try out different types of canned or marinated artichokes to see what you like best.

Tools Needed To Air Fry Artichoke Hearts

Since this is an air fryer recipe, you'll obviously need your handy dandy air fryer. I just use a simple one I grabbed at Target but it totally does the job!

  • This is the air fryer I use and it's the perfect size for 2-4 people.
  • You'll also need a strainer for the artichoke hearts
  • A paper towel to pat them dry
  • As well as a small mixing bowl

How To Make Air Fryer Artichokes

Simple from start to finish, let's make these air fryer artichokes.

  1. Drain the artichoke hearts and lay them out on a paper towel.
  2. Pat them dry.
  3. In a small bowl combine parmesan cheese, panko, and Italian seasoning. Toss well.
  4. Take each artichoke heart and toss it in the panko mixture until it's nicely covered.
  5. Place in the basket of an air fryer, keep in mind you may need to do this in batches.
  6. Spray with olive oil and air fry at 400 degrees for 5 minutes.
  7. While these cook, in a small bowl combine the mayo, mustard, lemon juice, salt, pepper, and garlic then whisk well.
  8. Serve the crispy artichoke hearts drizzled with the aioli and enjoy!

How To Eat and Enjoy Air Fryer Artichokes?

Crispy artichoke hearts are a great snack or appetizer for any dinner party or game day tailgate!

I'd also serve this as a side dish for a nice Salmon Steak or even Rosemary Skillet Chicken

FAQ and Tips

Can you reheat the artichoke hearts? Yes! Store them in an airtight container then simply re-air fry them for 2-3 minutes. They will crisp back up.

Can you double the recipe? Easily double the recipe by doubling all ingredients for the artichoke hearts but no need to double the sauce, a little goes a long way.

Do you have to peel the artichoke hearts? Nope! If you use canned or marinated hearts all the hard work is done for you.
