White Bean Dip Ingredients

Only a few pantry ingredients are needed for this beautiful vegan and gluten free white bean dip.

  • 2 cans of northern beans
  • 1 packet of French Onion Dip mix
  • 2 yellow onions, thinly sliced
  • ½ tablespoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon pepper
  • 2 tablespoons balsamic vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • olive oil

You'll also need a food processor or high speed blender to bring this hummus-like dip together in a snap.

How To Caramelize Onions

The most important part of this dip is the gorgeous caramelized onions. If you've never done this before, it is SO easy and only takes a few extra minutes to create some intense flavor.

  1. Heat olive oil in a heavy bottomed skillet over medium heat
  2. Add thinly sliced onions and a pinch of salt and sugar.
  3. Let them sit for about 3 minutes then give them a good stir around.
  4. Continue to watch and stir for 15-20 minutes until dark and golden brown.
  5. I like to add a splash of balsamic vinegar towards the end to intensify the flavor.

Doing this slower over medium heat will ensure a great caramelized flavor without the risk of burning the onions.

French Onion Dip Mix

I simply used a store bought French Onion Dip mix. You could make your own using this recipe but I find that the simplicity of the packet is worth it!

French Onion Dip flavors typically include:

  • onion
  • garlic
  • parsley
  • salt and pepper

So really simple flavors but they go a long way in flavoring this French Onion White Bean Dip!

What To Serve With White Bean Dip

You could serve lots of different things along side this bean dip. I chose salted pita chips!

But you could also use veggies, corn chips, or even plantain chips.

This makes a great side dish to bring to a cookout or potluck because the onion and garlic flavors pair easily with many different main dishes.

I would serve this along side my Stuffed Courgettes! But it would also go really well with a simple Seared Flank Steak.
