Crispy gnocchi tossed with tender salmon is a hearty, 30-minute dinner that can be made really healthy or indulgent! Depending on your mood Fried Gnocchi and Salmon is a very versatile dish.
I love tossing it with a caesar dressing or simply some parmesan and garlic. Dress it up however you like. But you'll DEFINITELY want to start frying your gnocchi from this moment forward.
What is Gnocchi?
Gnocchi is an Italian dumpling of sorts. Little pasta-like bites made from potato, flour, and egg. You traditionally boil them in water to cook them before eating.
I also LOVE Trader Joe's Cauliflower Gnocchi as a substitute. Its actually not that much healthier but it tastes just as amazing air fried as regular gnocchi.
The Best Fried Gnocchi Recipe
To make the best fried gnocchi and salmon you need a few things....
- 12 oz gnocchi or cauliflower gnocchi
- 12 oz salmon (or 2 six oz filets)
- salt and pepper
- olive oil
- garlic powder
- Everything But The Bagel Seasoning
- parsley
This is a one air-fryer meal! Both of our components of the dish can be air fried to perfection.
Have you ever air-fried salmon to cook it? It creates some crispy edges and leaves the inside perfectly tender.
How To Make It
So this is the simplest way to fry gnocchi to perfection: the air fryer. You can also pop the salmon right in there too and it's a one-dish meal.
- Season the salmon with everything bagel seasoning, garlic powder, and salt.
- Place the filet into the air fryer and pour in the gnocchi. If your air fryer is small, you may need to do the salmon in 2 batches.
- Drizzle with olive oil and add the remainder of the everything bagel seasoning to the gnocchi.
- Squeeze half a lemon over the entire basket.
- Air fry at 400 degrees Fahrenheit for 15 minutes until gnocchi is golden brown and salmon is cooked to an internal temperature of 145 degrees Fahrenheit.
- Serve with chopped parsley.
Air Fryer Cauliflower Gnocchi
I love using cauliflower gnocchi for this because it can go straight from frozen to fried in 15 minutes! It also makes the perfect snack if you are craving something savory.
Seasoning it with the everything bagel seasoning and a little garlic is the perfect addition to any meal!
Pan Fried Gnocchi
If you choose to use regular gnocchi, I suggest pan frying it! Simply heat up some olive oil in a skillet and fry for about 10-15 minutes.
I usually add a splash of water in there too to help the cooking process along. Season with the everything bagel seasoning like mentioned in the above recipe.
FAQ
Do You Need To Boil Gnocchi Before Frying?
Nope! Cauliflower gnocchi and regular gnocchi can be fried right away with out boiling it first.
Boiling Vs Frying
If you want a more tender, softer textured gnocchi you can definitely still make this recipe by boiling the gnocchi. Just season it lightly after it comes out of the water.
Frying creates a crispy texture on the outside that reminds me of a tatertot! It's a unique way to enjoy these Italian dumplings.
Best sauce for gnocchi
I think any creamy sauce such as Alfredo, parmesan, or even a vodka sauce would be delicious over fried gnocchi.
You could also use marinara sauce to create a unique Italian dinner!
