My favorite part of sitting down to a fancy Italian meal? The inevitable bread and dipping oil that makes its way to your table as an appetizer. My Bread Dipping Oil recipe is for times you just want to make a special moment at home!
Herbs, garlic, divine olive oil, a splash of balsamic vinegar is a simple combo that will have your family & friends begging for the recipe. It's easy to make, simple to store, and DELICIOUS!

Recipe For Bread Dipping Oil
Raid your spice cabinet for this one, folks! A blend of dried herbs and olive oil and a quick pinch of salt is all you need...
- Italian Seasoning
- Garlic Powder
- Dried Onion
- Paprika
- Red Pepper Flakes
- Olive Oil
- Balsamic Vinegar
- Salt
- Pepper
- Parmesan Cheese
Simply mix all of the spice with the olive oil and top with a drizzle of the balsamic vinegar and parmesan. Dip your bread and enjoy!
Best Spices For Dipping Oil
So this is my favorite combination of spices because it reminds me of time we spent in Italy and the spices they used.
An Italian blend of spices is a mix of oregano, marjoram, thyme, rosemary, sage, and basil. Grab an Italian blend to make it easier on yourself!
Should I use Fresh or Dry Spices?
For this specific recipe I prefer dried spices because I feel like fresh herbs can definitely overpower the dish. But, if you've got some fresh herbs lying around this is a great use for them!
Dried spices are also a little more economical since you might already have them in your pantry.
Easy Grilled Bread
One way to continue to elevate this dish is by grilling the bread you serve with it! What's a good bread dipping oil if the bread isn't any good?!
You could even make your own using this super easy, no-knead bread recipe!
- Drizzle your bread of choice with olive oil, I love this no-knead bread recipe.
- Heat your grill to 350 degrees and grill the bread for 2-3 minutes on each side until you see char marks
What To Serve With It
This makes a great appetizer, side dish, or an addition to a charcuterie board! In the summer my husband and I love to sit on the patio, grill dinner, and enjoy this bread and oil as an appetizer.
I love to serve it with...
- Basil Balsamic Grilled Chicken
- Grilled Chicken Sliders
- Salmon Spinach Pasta
- Crispy Pancetta and Scallop Pasta
Does The Olive Oil Matter?
Short answer: yes.
For this recipe I recommend an Extra Virgin Olive Oil. However the quality and tastes of these can range drastically from brand to brand.
I personally love Olio Piro or Carapelli. For the price they are of excellent quality and easy to find!
FAQ
How To Store?
I like to store this sealed tightly in a mason jar in my pantry before adding the balsamic and parmesan. Add those 2 finishing ingredients right before serving!
Best Bread To Serve With It?
Any store-bought baguette, French bread, sourdough, or homemade crusty bread is delicious!
