Nothing hits the spot more than one of those gas station taquitos, am I right? Crispy taquitos hot off the roller, now make them at home! Taquitos in the air fryer is the best way to do it.

Fresh or frozen, making taquitos in your air fryer couldn't be easier and I've got a delicious recipe to make the best taquitos ever. Serve them up with a spicy margarita and enjoy!

What is a Taquito?

A taquito is one of my favorite things to pick up at a gas station! They are small tortillas wrapped around some type of meat and cheese.

Traditionally deep fried, we're going to lighten these up by popping them in the air fryer.

You can totally use pre-made taquitos for this or use my recipe below for some easy, homemade chicken taquitos!

Frozen Taquitos In The Air Fryer

Kids hungry? Need a quick appetizer? Frozen taquitos are the best snack to serve! Make them in a snap right in the air fryer.

Straight from frozen, toss a few taquitos in your air fryer's basket and spray with cooking oil. Air fry at 425 for 5 minutes and then enjoy a perfectly crispy taquito.

Even better than the gas station version!

Homemade Chicken Taquitos

Looking for something a little more hands on? Let's make some homemade chicken taquitos.

This recipe is adapted from my White Chicken Enchiladas and consists of a shredded chicken mix, green Chile enchilada sauce, and cheese.

Here's what you'll need....

  • 10-12 small flour or corn tortillas
  • 2 cooked chicken breasts can be leftover or shredded chicken from a rotisserie chicken!
  • 1 cup shredded Mexican cheese
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 2 tbsp flour
  • 3 cups chicken stock
  • 1 cup greek yogurt
  • 1 4 oz can of diced green chiles
  • 2 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp pepper
  • cilantro green onion for garnish
  • cooking spray

Wrapping Taquitos

The trick to wrapping the perfect taquito is to warm up the tortilla first.

On a plate stack the tortillas and microwave for 20-30 seconds until warm and pliable.

Place a small amount of filling on the outer edge of the tortilla and gently wrap. Place them in the air fryer seam side down to hold in the contents, and spray with cooking spray.

Simply air fry and enjoy with salsa or pico de Gallo!

Tips and Tricks To Air Frying A Taquito

Don't Crowd The Basket. It's important to do it in batches so you don't overcrowd the air fryer basket. This ensures an even, crispy tortilla.

Do I need cooking oil? If you feel strongly against it, skip it. However it does help to achieve the best crisp on the edges!

Sauces For Taquitos...Salsa, pico de Gallo, guacamole, and sour cream make delicious sauces! However if you have extra Green Chile Enchilada sauce from my recipe, use that as the dipping sauce.
