I recently got to do some product photography for a sweet little Florida company called Little Black Box Baked Goods. They offer artisanal jams, jellies, and baked goods! I got to play around and show off how you can creatively use jelly in recipes. I actually came up with a few awesome ideas to use up the last spoonfuls of jelly and jam hanging out in your fridge! Here are some unique uses for jelly!
From appetizer ideas to desserts, breakfast to dinner the sweetness of jams and jelly can really add a punch of flavor and sweetness. Not to mention, with flavors like raspberry chipotle it's just begging for something fun!
First off, what's the difference between jam and jelly anyways?
- Jelly uses fruit juice and is very smooth in texture
- Jam uses fruit pulp/crushed fruit so it is naturally thicker in texture!
5 creative Recipes using jelly & Jam
- Strawberry Pancakes
There are so many reasons to love these! A little spoonful of jelly swirled into your favorite pancake batter (mine is Kodiak Cakes!) then a little bit spread between each layer. Its bright, summer breakfast perfection!
- Yogurt & Berry Jam Bowl
Another breakfast idea or a quick afternoon snack, a yogurt bowl is a great way to add some sweetness and pizzaz to some plain greek yogurt. Whichever jam/jelly you use try to add in a few pieces of fresh fruit that coordinate to bring the whole bowl together! This would be awesome with grape jelly, blackberry jam, any flavor you like!
And if you want to make it Lebanese style, I love using Labneh and topping it with fruit! How to make labneh.
- Mango Pineapple Pepper Martini
I used a bit of this sweet and spicy jelly shaken with some ice, frozen blended mango and vodka! It adds enough sweetness to make this alcoholic beverage simply sippable! You could also nix the vodka and add sparkling water for a mocktail!
- Raspberry Chipolte Meatballs
I think we all know the classic slow cooker meatball with jelly recipe. So I couldn't resist it! It's a great appetizer OR layer it on a baguette and call it dinner. I did a riff on a popular appetizer in my college town from So Long Saloon: Raspberry Black Bean Dip. It's a sweet, savory, creamy dip and I made it MEATBALLS.
